ENVIRONMENTAL DANGER - MAJOR ROADWORKS AHEAD

TIME TO RE-THINK THE BERRY BYPASS ROUTE

BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE

Now is the time for all parties involved to sit back and re-consider the effect that the proposed Berry By-pass will have on this historic town.

It is only three years since Gareth Ward MP presided at the unveiling of the statue to honour the founder of the area, ALEXANDER BERRY.

Since then. there have been interminable reviews and internet publications by the R&MS.   The Environmental Assessment is now in the hands of the Minister for Infrastructure and the Director-General for approval.

It has been reported in the Press that the Premier has asked for a review of the "scope" of the project in the light of the fiscal situation.

This gives us some slight hope that fresh light may be directed at the magnitude of the proposed highway in relation to its effect on the town of Berry and the relatively light intermittent traffic flow.
When the RTA bought a strip of land bordering North Street some 40 years ago it was intended that it should be used as a diversion for heavy trucks.  This modest plan was seen as reasonable at the time but since then the RTA have developed a monster of a highway plan out of all proportion to what is required.

It is essential that pressure be brought to bear on politicians of all persuasions to demand a complete review of the proposal.
